How do you turn an American love brand into a trendsetter of German pop culture?

Early 2017, Netflix asked us to run their social media channels in Germany and make the American brand a trendsetter for German pop culture. Three years later, Netflix was No.1 in German social media rankings. Today we continue to provide Netflix with consulting, editorial strategy, format creation, and community management.

We went from pretty Instagram to ugly instagram — intentionally.

Recently we hit the magic number of 1 million followers. What’s the story behind that? 

In November 2020 we launched the Netflix DACH TikTok channel. In only 16 month we gained 1 Million followers and are regularly producing content that reaches more than a million organic views. Let’s take a look how we did it.

The ultimate goal is for people to tell their friends: „Have you seen what Netflix did on TikTok?“ 

TikTok is very unique in the way the audience and algorithm interacts with your content. It almost feels unpredictable. But a key success factor is speed: being one of the first ones to adopt trends by constantly being on the lookout for sounds and memes you can adopt with a twist on your brand.
  

Formats

Staying relevant is about constantly testing and reviewing the content

TikToks algorithm driven content distribution allows for experiments. We are constantly developing testing and evolving our content formats. For every single best performing content format we are running we tested and killed at least 3. Based on those learnings we also achieved to standardize the style of our formats in away that, while still looking like an organic TikTo Video, users instantly recognize it’s a Netflix video.

TikTok delivers unprecedented tools for Community Management

Just as important as the content you put out is the way you appear in the comment section. This can make or break positioning yourself among other brands and creators: It’s about creating real emotional connections, giving fans the feeling of being seen and heard and showing we are fans, too: Ultimately resulting in brand love.
